Friends of the Library Marjorie Taylor (L) and Anne Crew (R)
help Aline Rundle (C) find some "previously owned" books to
purchase from the wide selection available.
The RML Used Book Store will be open on the second
Saturday of each month from 9AM until 12PM.
In the Roddenbery Memorial Library Used Book Store, adjacent to the Grady Room, the staff keeps an excellent selection of used books for sale in an atomosphere that is calm and inviting. Customers can browse through the books and take their time in making selections. Customers are encouraged to come and shop in the Used Book Store whenever the library is open, or during the special Saturday hours once a month, when the Friends of the Library are operating the store.
Library hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays; and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. The library usually has plenty of shopping bags available for carrying home any treasures purchased from the store.
Books in the Used Book Store come from several sources. Some have been removed from the library collection. Others have been donated and found to be duplicates of titles that the library already has. Still others come to RML through various exchanges, special offers from authors or publishers, or sample tables at conferences.
A special feature of the store is a shelf that has some vintage, collectible books for sale. Some of them date back to the 1800's. Because of their publication date and condition, these books are called "collectible," but not rare. Web sites of antiquarian book stores have given the library some guidance on what prices are being asked for each of these collectible books in stores around the country. Customers are invited to make the library an offer based on the published prices.
The Used Book Store also features the hottest sale items from The Library Store. Be sure to visit frequently to find special deals on library gift items.
The library is always receiving donations of books from readers, and anything that does not go into the library collection can be a great bargain in the Used Book Store, often in excellent condition. Call the library at 377-3632 for details on buying books from the used book store.
