RML Lands Target Grant for Art Instruction Classes
August 09, 2010
The library has received a $2,000 grant from Target to begin a program called the Imagination Station at RML. The project will lead to the creation of art classes at the library, with the goal of helping young people in Grady County discover and nurture their artistic skills. The library staff is hopeful that the program can eventually become self-sustaining. The Target grant will be used as seed money to get the first sessions started. Watch for announcements of art classes in the fall. Also, anyone with suggestions for certain classes or certain people who would like to help with the program should speak with a library staff member as the planning begins. Roddenbery Memorial Library thanks Target for returning part of its profit to our community for the improvement of art appreciation. Library Reaches Out with "exito@tu.biblioteca"
July 02, 2010In July Roddenbery Memorial Library will launch its grant project to create enhanced opportunities for the improvement of literacy among English language learners in Grady County. Our evening Vacation Reading Program on July 13 featuring Cuban American Tersi Bendiburg telling Latin American Folk Tales will be the first grant-funded activity. The $5,000 grant is funded by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation in partnership with the American Library Association. There are two Dollar General stores in Cairo and one in Whigham.
The library will partner with businesses, organizations, and agencies county-wide to create awareness about library services to help learners of English become successful in their life here in Grady County. Anyone with suggestions for how to more effectively reach people in our community who need to receive our promotions is invited to call or visit the library, 229-377-3632. Watch for announcements of more services and activities during the remainder of 2010.
SP 2010 Campaign Kicks Off!
June 30, 2010The Grady County RML Supporting Patron campaign for 2010 has begun in earnest with several major donations. Campaign chair family Brenda and Johnny Darsey are urging Grady County residents to show their support by donating to the SP 2010 fund drive for the library.
It will be particularly important this year, as the library tries to close the gap on funding shortages for personnel, books and other collection items, and operating costs. There are more levels than last year and a place in the SP 2010 campaign for everyone who supports the library. Visit the library soon and find out more about it, or call 377-3632.

Georgia Historic Plates Available from RML
June 16, 2010
Roddenbery Memorial Library is proud to announce that it has been approved by the Transylvania Club of Sandersville, Georgia, as an official vendor of Georgia Historic Plates. Collectors, history buffs, gift givers, brides, and lovers of all things Georgian will be interested in this group of twelve fine quality works of art, made by Wedgewood of England for the Transylvania Club. The plate designs feature some of Georgia's earliest and best known people, places, and events. The RML price of $50 per plate could be the lowest price in Georgia. The library has brochures that tell a little about the plates and direct people to the Transylvania Club web site for further information. Plates can be ordered one by one or in groups, and each plate comes in either blue or red. Ask about Georgia Historic Plates at Roddenbery Memorial Library, or go to the Georgia Historic Plates Web site.
